The Pros And Cons Of Renting A Furnished Apartment

Posted on: 22 October 2017

There are a number of reasons why you may be considering renting a furnished apartment. You may be living in a city temporarily for work and don't want to move all of your furniture to the city for a temporary job. You may be on a trial separation from your spouse and want space, but aren't sure about investing in furniture. Or you may be moving out of your parent's house for the first time and may not have furniture and are not financially positioned to buy furniture. In each of these situations, you have the choice or renting an unfurnished apartment and renting out furniture or renting a furnished apartment. There are pros and cons to each option. Read on to learn about these pros and cons.

The Cons of Renting a Furnished Apartment

  • You Have No Say in the Style of the Furniture

One of the downsides to renting a furnished apartment is that you have no say in the style of the furniture. You may love an apartment and its location but dislike the furniture. When you rent an unfurnished apartment and rent furniture, you can select furniture that is more to your liking.

  • It's Typically All or Nothing

The other disadvantage to renting a furnished apartment is that it is typically an all or nothing situation. The apartment is typically completely furnished or not furnished at all. If you have a few furniture pieces, but not everything, renting furniture may make more sense. You can use the pieces you have and rent the pieces you need. If you were to rent a completely furnished space, you wouldn't have space for the pieces you already have.

The Pros of Renting a Furnished Apartment

  • You Can Bring a Suitcase and Move Right In

The biggest advantage to renting a furnished apartment is that you can typically bring clothes and toiletries and move right in. You don't have to move any heavy pieces of furniture, pack up belongings, or invest in household goods. Everything is right there ready for you.

  • Renting Furniture is Expensive

The other benefit to renting a furnished apartment is that renting furniture can be expensive. Furniture rental stores heavily mark up the price of their furniture and charge large monthly interest rates on the rental pieces. While you will spend more to rent a furnished apartment compared to an unfurnished one, this cost is typically cheaper than renting out a couch, bed, dresser and dining room table from a furniture rental store.

If you don't have a lot of furniture or have no furniture at all, you have to decide whether to rent an unfurnished apartment and rent furniture or rent a furnished apartment. Weighing the pros and cons will help you make the decision that is right for you. Contact a local apartment rental company for more information.
