Tips For Planning The Perfect Winery Getaway

Posted on: 25 January 2023

Whether you're planning a quick winery weekend or a week-long adventure, a little bit of planning ahead of time will ensure a successful trip. A winery and the surrounding area will provide either a relaxing or a recharging getaway, depending on what type of adventure you're looking for.

The first thing you'll need to consider when planning the winery getaway is if you want to travel locally, or if don't mind having to drive awhile or fly to get there. If you choose to go to a far-flung winery, make sure you have enough time to travel to and from your destination, as well as enjoy it for at least a few days.

While wineries make perfect "just because" getaways, they are also the ideal spots to enjoy a wide variety of special events and occasions, including girls' trips, bridal showers, anniversaries, holidays such as Valentine's Day, milestone birthdays, college graduations and wedding receptions. If you're planning the trip during a popular time of year, such as the summer wedding or winter holiday season, make reservations as far in advance as possible.

Here are some additional tips for planning a successful winery getaway:

1. Choose the Right Time of Year

If you just want to enjoy the winery and sample all of the wines it offers, you can make the getaway any time of the year as long as it's open. However, if you want to experience the vineyard, as well, make sure you visit during the grape growing season.

After choosing your preferred winery, check to see when the grapevines will produce grapes. You may also want to visit during grape-harvesting season, to take part in that tradition as well.

2. Consider Additional Activities

Even if the winery is your main reason for the trip, consider what other activities the destination offers. For instance, if you crave adventure, look for a city that also offers exciting attractions such as theme parks, skydiving, or horseback riding. If relaxing is more of your thing, pick an area that is known for its natural hot springs or spas.

3. Decide Where to Stay

If you don't want to leave the winery your entire stay, choose one that offers onsite accommodations, such as an elegant bed and breakfast or rustic cabins. Check out the amenities, as well, since some wineries feature hot tubs, indoor or outdoor pools, 5-star restaurants, casual cafes, and fire pits as well.

Finding Great Hotels
